The Alderley Market
Great food direct from the people who made it.

Alderley Edge Farmers Market celebrated its 10th anniversary in June 2008 and to commemorate the occasion a truly special event was laid on for the many customers. More of a Food Festival than just a market, Alderley Edge has been home to one of the regions best foody events for the last decade.
It’s come a long way since the 90’s. The first market was held whilst the foot and mouth crisis was in full swing in 1998 and was a way of helping local farmers. They had to lay down disinfected mats and straw for cars and customers to drive and walk over. But that didn’t dampen spirits.
Martin Bell was our MP and came to open the inaugural event. Balloons were released, music was played, and customers flocked in to see this new phenomenon.
In June 2005 the first market was held in Alderley village itself at the Festival Hall which has been its home ever since. The Wilmslow Lions have tirelessly set up the event and welcomed customers with warm smiles and at Christmas even warmer mulled wine. Their desire to good deeds in the community has given us a great market and also raised thousands for local charities.
The market has flourished and today regularly has over 30 producers. Bringing vegetables and meats straight from the farm, ceramics from local kilns and a host of other treats from bakers, delicatessens, vineyards and breweries. The event has grown beyond all recognition of its humble beginnings. Some of the same faces, however, can still be seen, on both sides of the counters.
